Is it permissible for Muslims to seek treatment through hypnosis, given its alleged benefits in overcoming fear and phobias and gaining confidence?

Contemporary scholars have ruled that hypnosis is related to the use of Jinn, and therefore, it is not permissible to seek assistance from Jinn or other creatures in knowing the unseen, as this constitutes polytheism (shirk (definition)). Hypnosis is a form of divination (kahana) that involves using a Jinn, whom the hypnotist empowers over the hypnotized person, causing the latter to speak through the Jinn's tongue and granting them strength for certain actions by controlling them. Therefore, exploiting hypnosis to locate stolen items or lost objects, cure a patient, or perform any other act is impermissible.
