Is using a pendulum to find answers by sensing vibrations emitted by the minds of others—which is claimed not to be divination but rather the use of senses at their highest degree—permissible or forbidden in Islam? And is it considered a form of astrology or superstition?

Pendulums and other tools that claim to know the unseen are forms of divination and sorcery. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, forbade approaching soothsayers and sorcerers, and considered believing them to be an act of disbelief, because no one knows the unseen except Allah.

The claim of a connection between pendulums and energy has no basis in Islamic law nor in modern science. Rather, this concept was derived from the Pharaohs and their followers. A Muslim bases their judgment of something on the established principles and accepted tenets of Islamic law, which state that Allah alone has reserved knowledge of the unseen, and that a soothsayer is one who claims knowledge of the future, and believing them is among the gravest sins.
