What are the types of ṭīrah (superstitious omens) that must be avoided, which may cause fear of something bad happening or regret over something said?

Not every retraction from a matter is considered ṭiyarah (superstitious pessimism); rather, the ruling depends on the the reasons for the retraction. It may be praiseworthy or obligatory if a person realizes they will face danger or commit a forbidden act. There is no blame in retracting from a matter due to asceticism or a loss of desire for it, unless it is accompanied by pessimism about something and believing that which is not a cause to be a cause. This is the forbidden ṭiyarah which is considered shirk (definition) (associating partners with God). The Prophet, peace and blessings be be upon him, said: "Whoever is turned back from a need by ṭiyarah has committed shirk," and "Whoever is turned back from something by ṭiyarah has approached shirk." Ṭiyarah can be major shirk or minor shirk, and some forms of it are exempt from prohibition.
