The answer

Ibn Kathir's work indicates that the destruction of the Kaaba is a precursor, and he identifies Al-Jahjah as Al-Qahtani, with the sequence according to him being: the destruction of the Kaaba followed by the appearance of Al-Jahjah Al-Qahtani. Al-Qurtubi is of the view that Al-Qahtani might be Al-Jahjah. While others believe that Al-Qahtani is Arab and Al-Jahjah is a mawla (freed slave or client), the term mawla can also be applied to an ally or one who has been emancipated. It is possible that the destruction of the Kaaba is one of the major signs of the Hour. There is no great consequence attached to this issue, and what is required is adherence to Allah's decree in these cosmic matters.
