What is the ruling on a mother destroying her son's photographs without his permission, and what are the implications of that?
Source: FtawySummary from Ftawy's records · added here Sep 2, 2026
Photography is not among the types of imagery forbidden by Islamic law. There is no harm in placing photographs inside a drawer or cabinet, because the prohibition on three-dimensional images of living beings only applies to displaying them, not to placing them in cabinets or similar places. However, taking personal photos without permission is impermissible, because the photo is then stored and published, leading to greater tribulation and discord. The owner of the photo must be compensated for the cost of producing it, or their forgiveness must be sought.
