Is it considered a sin to go down to the street to fetch recreational – not essential – items, knowing in advance that there are forbidden things such as music and unveiled women, and the possibility of seeing and hearing them, with music also present in the elevator, all in order to fulfill the request of the mother who might be upset if one does not go down?

There is no sin in hearing music unintentionally, but there is sin in listening to it intentionally. The presence of immodestly dressed women does not prohibit going out to markets to fulfill permissible needs, and a Muslim is obligated to lower his gaze and condemn (evil) within his capacity. It is not permissible to disobey one's mother and refuse to buy her requests under the pretext of the presence of immodestly dressed women and music. It is advised to stay away from extremism and rigidity in religion, as it is dispraised by Sharia (definition), and the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Indeed, this religion is easy, and no one will make the religion difficult except that it will overwhelm him," and he said: "Ruined are those who are extreme." Extremism in religion destroyed those before us. Corrupt piety spoils more than it rectifies, and the belief in obligation and prohibition must be based on evidence from the Quran and Sunnah (definition) and knowledge.
