Where are the instances of supplication?

The occasions for supplication (Du'a) are of two types: the first type is where the desirability of Du'a has been established by the Qur'an and Sunnah (definition), whether it relates to a specific time, place, or situation. The second type is absolute Du'a, which is not restricted by time, place, or situation. Any remembrance (Dhikr) or supplication (Du'a) that is restricted to a specific situation, time, or place should be performed in the manner in which it was reported. As for absolute Dhikr or Du'a, if it was reported, it should be performed in the manner in which it was reported. If it was not reported, it is permissible for the servant to supplicate with words not explicitly reported in the category of absolute Dhikr and Du'a, provided five conditions are met: selecting the best wording, its conformity to Arabic meaning and grammar, its freedom from any شرعي (Shar'i) prohibition, that it falls within the category of absolute Dhikr and Du'a, not restricted, and that one does not make it a regular, fixed practice.
