The answer

Friendship and affection with disbelievers are not permissible, based on the Almighty's saying: "You will not find a people who believe in Allah and the Last Day loving those who oppose Allah and His Messenger."

As for companionship based on fairness, justice, and kindness, there is no harm in it, based on the Almighty's saying: "Allah does not forbid you from those who do not fight you because of religion and do not expel you from your homes - from being righteous toward them and acting justly toward them. Indeed, Allah loves those who act justly."

It is important to strive to convince the non-Muslim colleague to utter the Shahada (testimony of faith) and to explain the virtues of Islam to her, for guiding one person by Allah is better than red camels.
