The question

How sound is the Hadith: “In the name of Allah, I lay myself down. O Allah, forgive my sins, drive away my devil, release my bonds, and place me in the highest assembly (An-Nadi Al-A‘la)”? And what is the meaning of “place me in the highest assembly (An-Nadi Al-A‘la)”?

The answer

This was narrated by Abu Dawud, Al-Tabarani, and Al-Hakim, and was authenticated by Al-Hakim and Al-Albani. It was graded (good) by Al-Nawawi and Ibn Hajar. The phrase "the uppermost assembly" refers to the highest assembly of angels, meaning, "make me among those gathered in the highest assembly of angels."

It is also possible that "the highest station" refers to an elevated rank and the station of al-wasila (intercession), or it could refer to the calling of the people of Paradise, while the lower calling is the calling of the people of Hellfire.
