Where is the grave of Hussein located, and is knowledge of its location beneficial to Muslims?

People have differed regarding the burial place of the head and body of Al-Husayn. Some say it is in Ash-Sham, and others say it is in Iraq. The correct view is that what is in Egypt is not his grave. People do not need to know his burial place. What is prescribed is to supplicate for him for forgiveness and mercy, as he was killed unjustly. He and his brother Al-Hasan (definition) are the masters of the youth of Paradise. It is permissible to visit his grave to supplicate for him and to invoke mercy upon him, like the rest of the graves of Muslims, without exaggeration or worship, for nothing should be sought from the deceased. It is forbidden to build mosques and domes over graves, to plaster them, to perfume them, or to place coverings over them. Nor is it permissible to pray at them, as this is a means to polytheism. Graves are visited only to greet their inhabitants, to supplicate for them, and to invoke mercy upon them, without undertaking special journeys.
