What is the ruling on one who markets his goods with a false oath?
Source: FtawySummarized from the full answer at Ftawy · imported Sep 2, 2026
Lying in an oath to promote and sell merchandise is one of the grave sins for which a severe warning has been issued, as stated in the prophetic : "There are three whom Allah will not speak to on the Day of Resurrection: the one who does not give anything without boasting about it, the one who sells his merchandise by a false oath, and the one who lets his lower garment drag [out of arrogance]." The perpetrator of such an act must repent to Allah and seek forgiveness from the buyer if possible; otherwise, they should supplicate for good for the buyer. The sale itself is valid as long as its conditions and pillars have been met.
