Does du'a contradict patience?
Supplication does not contradict patience. A person may be patient with a decree yet supplicate to God to remove what has afflicted him. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, used to guide the sick to supplication. However, if a person can endure the persistence of illness and affliction, seeking reward from God, this is better, as in the hadith of the woman who chose patience over epilepsy in exchange for Paradise. This indicates that patience in the face of affliction leads to Paradise, and that choosing the more difficult path is better than choosing the concession for those who can bear it, and that treating all illnesses through supplication and seeking refuge in God is more beneficial than treatment with medication.
