A believer may love and hate simultaneously; they love good and obedience, and hate evil and disobedience. So, whoever loves a person for the good within them will be rewarded by Allah, because their love represents love for what Allah and His Messenger love. Similarly, one is rewarded for hating for the sake of Allah, confirming the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: "The firmest handhold of faith is love for Allah and hatred for Allah."

The person who loves what Allah and His Messenger love, and hates what they hate, is among the rightly guided, as stated in the Almighty's words: (But Allah has endeared to you faith and has made it pleasing in your hearts and has made hateful to you disbelief, wickedness and disobedience. Those are the rightly guided).

Therefore, one should hate a person to the extent of the evil and disobedience within them. Loving a person for the good within them necessitates obedience to Allah, for whose sake that love was established.
