Is it permissible to eat the meat of a sheep that nursed from a dog until it grew, after it has been slaughtered?

The ruling on eating the meat of a sheep that suckled from a dog differs. The Hanafis consider it disliked (makruh (definition)) if its meat changes and becomes putrid. They consider eating a kid or a lamb that suckled from a dog or a pig not disliked if its meat has not changed. The Hanbalis, however, permit eating it if it is confined for forty days and drinks pure water. As for the Shafi'is, they state that eating the meat of a lamb raised on dog's milk is forbidden if it has changed, or disliked.

In summary, the crux of the matter lies in whether the meat has changed and become putrid. If the sheep is slaughtered and found to have changed, its consumption is disliked; otherwise, it is permissible. Therefore, it is advisable to leave it for a period until the effect of the dog's milk wears off, then slaughter it. If its meat is normal, it is permissible to eat; but if it has a putrid smell, it should not be eaten.
