What is meant by the House in the Almighty’s saying: "Indeed, the first House established for mankind was that at Bakkah," and does it refer to the first mosque, and what is the meaning of "first" here?

The preponderant view regarding the meaning of the verse: "Indeed, the first House [of worship] established for mankind was that at Bakkah - blessed and a guidance for the worlds" is that it refers to the Sacred House being the first house established for worship and rituals, and the first mosque built for the worship of Allah Almighty. Houses existed before it, but it was the first mosque for the worship of Allah, a view supported by Ali ibn Abi Talib, may Allah be pleased with him. This is the correct opinion, while the narrations claiming it was the first house built absolutely are not authentic. This is supported by the hadith of Abu Dharr, may Allah be pleased with him, who asked the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, about the first mosque built on earth. He replied: "Al-Masjid Al-Haram," then "Al-Masjid Al-Aqsa," and there were forty years between their construction.
