Is mentioning the negative traits of children and relatives to others—for the purpose of relieving psychological pressure and clarifying a situation—considered forbidden backbiting (ghibah)? And what are the controls for that?

Backbiting is forbidden by Islamic law, and it is impermissible to mention children and relatives in a way they dislike, for they are not without sanctity. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "Every Muslim's blood, wealth, and honor are sacred to another Muslim." Backbiting is not permissible merely to relieve distress or achieve temporary comfort, except in cases explicitly exempted by scholars, such as seeking justice, where Allah has permitted the oppressed to openly voice evil, or for seeking advice and fatwa, or for self-defense against slander. We advise patience with children and relatives and offering them counsel, for there is a great reward in that.
