How can a person rightfully and lawfully claim his due from another who has slandered his honor, especially when the sole witness to that refused to testify after being promised that the matter would not be disclosed, knowing that the judiciary in his country is paralyzed?

Unjustly taking a life is one of the gravest sins. Allah has threatened the killer with Hellfire and eternal damnation therein, cursed him, and prepared for him a tremendous punishment, as the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "A believer will continue to be in a state of ease concerning his religion as long as he does not shed unlawful blood." Slandering reputations is forbidden and one of the major sins. Its prescribed legal remedy is the application of the Hadd punishment for slander, which requires the testimony of two just witnesses. As for an oath not to inform anyone, it is not obligatory to fulfill it if it entails harm or hardship. The witness must render testimony, but an expiation for breaking an oath is required when informing the court. If it is impossible to bring the matter before the judiciary, then there is no alternative but patience, and the offender may be threatened to deter him.
