What is the ruling on marrying a religious girl who is an illegitimate child, especially given society’s negative perception, and does her situation conflict with the noble Hadith: "Choose carefully for your progeny, for lineage is a strong influence"? The Sharia permits marriage to a woman born of adultery or whose lineage is unknown, provided she possesses piety and good character. It is preferable for a woman to be of noble lineage so that her child may be distinguished. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Choose carefully for your sperm, marry those who are compatible, and marry into their families." If a man fears that marrying a woman of questionable lineage might bring disgrace upon him and his child, then it is better for him to refrain and marry someone who meets all desired specifications. However, if he cannot find such a person, then a woman of piety and good character is more preferable and better than one of noble lineage devoid of religiousness.
