What is the ruling on one who feels their heart is sealed, suffers from obsessive compulsive whispers about departing from this world, and from theological whispers, and has committed a major sin, and fears that they may have lost faith, and cannot weep or show humility in prayer, and feels that sermons do not affect them, and asks about the possibility of repentance without weeping, and about the reason for their fear of death?

A righteous believer remembers his sins and fears their consequences, yet he hopes in his Lord and trusts in His mercy. If a servant repents from major sins with sincere repentance, Allah accepts it, erases the sin, and transforms bad deeds into good ones. Weeping out of awe of Allah is a blessing and not a condition for the validity of repentance. Reasons for fearing death may include attachment to the world or fear of Allah, and one should have a good opinion of Allah and remain steadfast. Whispers (Waswas) are repelled by seeking refuge (with Allah), seeking forgiveness, and not giving in to them.
