Is the study of genetics and its applications in improving agricultural crops—such as introducing genes to resist pests—considered forbidden (haram), even though there are other job opportunities after graduation?

There is no impediment to improving agricultural crop production through scientific means, as long as the work does not contradict Islamic law and does not harm humans. A resolution to this effect has been issued by thef Islamic Fiqh Academy.
