The answer

Genetic engineering is a technology that alters genes within an organism's body. Genetic engineering related to humans can be beneficial and permissible, such as its use in preventing or treating diseases, or it can be harmful or prohibited, such as its use to alter the genetic structure for improving the human race or engaging in genetic manipulation of a person's identity. A symposium organized by the Islamic Organization for Medical Sciences recommended the permissibility of its use in treating diseases, while prohibiting its use on germline cells. It also forbade its use for malicious purposes, or crossing the genetic barrier between organisms, or altering the genetic structure for improving the human race. There is no religious impediment to its use in agriculture and animal husbandry, provided that genetically modified products are clearly labeled for the consumer.
