Is the wife sinful if she refuses to allow her husband to marry another woman, out of fear for an orphan child changing his religion, knowing that her disapproval will prevent him from marrying? And is the wife sinful if she requests a divorce because she cannot tolerate the idea of her husband marrying another woman?

Allah has permitted a man to marry more than one woman, provided he has the financial means and the capacity for intercourse, as Allah Almighty says: "Then marry women you deem good, two, three, or four; but if you fear that you will not be able to act justly, then [marry] one, or that which your right hands possess."

If the husband's purpose in marrying another woman is out of concern for her child, fearing a change in their religion, then this is a good intention. And if the wife agrees to it for the same purpose, she will be rewarded.

There is no sin upon the wife if she expresses her unwillingness for this marriage, especially if her husband conditions his marriage on her consent and she finds it very difficult to bear.

It is not permissible for the husband to marry the aforementioned woman unless she is from the People of the Book (Christian or Jewish).

If the husband insists on marrying, the wife does not have the right to seek divorce, otherwise, she would be sinful, unless her jealousy is so severe that it prevents her from fulfilling her obligatory duties, in accordance with the hadith: "Any woman who asks her husband for a divorce without any compelling reason, the scent of Paradise will be forbidden to her."
