What is the ruling on a woman marrying a righteous man whose family previously had a bad reputation, if her family rejects him for that reason, and what is the ruling on an overbearing elder brother interfering in his sisters' marriages and preventing them from marrying?

If a man is righteous, he will not be held accountable for the corruption of his family, as Allah Almighty says: ﴿And no bearer of burdens will bear the burden of another.﴾ The correct standard for choosing a husband is religion and character. The most rightful people to marry off a woman are her father, then her grandfather, then her son, then her full brother. If she does not have a closer guardian than her brother, then he is the one who undertakes her marriage. If the brother insists on refusing without reason, he is obstructing her, and she has the right to refer her case to the judge to marry her off.
