What is the ruling on having a wet dream or imagining the act of sodomy, and is that considered actual sodomy?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

There is no sin upon a sleeping person if they see themselves committing a forbidden act in their dream. Similarly, imagining sodomy is not actual sodomy and there is no sin in it as long as it remains a mere imagination; this is based on the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: "Indeed, Allah has forgiven for my Ummah what they whisper to themselves, as long as they do not act upon it or speak of it." However, a Muslim should protect their mind from thinking about forbidden things, because corrupt thoughts are the origin of corruption, and repelling them is easier than repelling intentions and determinations once they have taken hold.
