How did the Arabs perform Hajj before Islam, knowing that the Ansar who pledged allegiance to the Messenger, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, in the Pledge of Aqabah came from Yathrib for Hajj?

Quraysh and those who followed their religion revered the Kaaba and performed pilgrimage to it before Islam. They had certain customs in their circumambulation (tawaf) and departure (ifadah), some of which Islam retained and some it abolished. Among these were:

Quraysh and those who followed their religion used to stand at Muzdalifah (known as Al-Hums), while the rest of the Arabs stood at Arafat. When Islam came, Allah commanded His Prophet to stand at Arafat, in fulfillment of His saying, "Then depart from where the people depart."

People in the pre-Islamic era (Jahiliyyah) used to circumambulate naked, except for Al-Hums (Quraysh and their offspring), who provided clothes for the circumambulation.

A group of people would depart from Arafat, while Al-Hums would depart from Jam'.

The Ansar disliked performing the circumambulation between Safa and Marwah after Islam because of what they used to do in the Jahiliyyah for two idols. So, Allah Almighty revealed: "Indeed, As-Safa and Al-Marwah are among the symbols of Allah. So, whoever performs Hajj to the House or performs Umrah - there is no blame upon him for circumambulating between them. And whoever volunteers good - then indeed, Allah is Appreciative and Knowing."

A Muslim should strive to learn the rulings of their religion and avoid busying themselves with what is of no benefit.
