What is the ruling on love between friends that involves adoration and yearning?

The love that exists between young men or young women in the form of infatuation, chatting, and longing is not free from Sharia prohibitions, such as forbidden gazing and khalwa (private seclusion), and may lead to falling into sodomy, fornication, or lesbianism. Therefore, one must be cautious of it and replace it with love for the sake of Allah, discourse in beneficial knowledge, and meeting upon obedience to Allah.
