Is it permissible for a young man to be fond of another young man, embrace him, miss him, and exchange messages of longing and affection with him, knowing that the relationship is based on brotherhood for the sake of Allah and natural love resulting from strong friendship, and contains nothing forbidden? If it is not permissible, what is the proof?

Love for the sake of Allah is one of the requisites of faith and a sign of a sound heart. However, when emotions of love and hatred become excessive, they are blameworthy. Moderation and balance in all matters are in accordance with Islamic law. As for hugging and kissing between men, the original ruling is permissibility in the absence of suspicion. Some say it is disliked except for someone returning from a journey. As for shaking hands, it is recommended, as evidenced by the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: "Should he take his hand and shake it? He replied: Yes."
