Is a young man's love for another of the same age forbidden, knowing that this love was the cause of the first's guidance and his commitment to prayer, reading the Qur'an, and abandoning desires? And is it permissible to dedicate the reward of charity, the completion of the Qur'an, and cycles of night prayer to him?

The greatest love is love for the sake of Allah. If the love is ordinary and within moderate bounds, and does not reach the point of adoration ('ishq), there is no harm in it, provided one is wary of the whispers of Satan. There is no harm in supplicating and seeking forgiveness for the person, for the supplication of a Muslim for his brother in his absence is answered, and an angel says, "Amen, and to you the like of it." It is also permissible to dedicate the reward of some good deeds to him.
