Is it permissible for a man to say to his wife, "If you have committed adultery, then you are divorced from me?"

A husband should have a good opinion of his wife and not embarrass her without clear evidence. How can he seek to uncover what Allah has concealed? If a man made his wife's divorce contingent upon her having committed adultery in the past, and that indeed occurred, then the divorce is effective without dispute, because this is not an oath and does not fall under the category of a redeemable oath.
