A husband who abandons prayer out of laziness is not considered an apostate according to the majority of scholars. It is not permissible for the wife to use contraceptives without his permission, and abortion is forbidden, even before the ensoulment of the fetus. However, if the husband denies the obligation of prayer, he is an apostate, and it is not permissible for his Muslim wife to remain married to him. She must withhold herself from him. If she is coerced into sexual intercourse, she is not permitted to have an abortion, but she may use contraception.
