We have been afflicted by a drought for some time; what is the reason for this?

The reasons for drought and barrenness are: the failure to realize faith and piety, the oppression of people and lack of compassion, breaking ties of kinship, withholding zakat (definition), giving short measure and weight, and the spread of corruption. As for the abundance of rain and ease of living in the lands of the disbelievers, that is an acceleration of their enjoyment in this world and a trial for them, and their hearts are in distress and misery.
