Divorce does not take effect if the one who utters it does not intend divorce, for intention is one of its pillars. If he intends to utter it, then one who falsely claims to have divorced his wife does not thereby effect a divorce. It is advisable to avoid discord in marital life and to solve problems with wisdom, and to avoid uttering words of divorce.
