Is it true that the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, used to hand over things with his right hand and receive with his left?
The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, preferred starting with the right in all his good and noble deeds, such as performing ablution (wudu'), putting on sandals, and combing his hair. As for ignoble deeds, he would perform them with his left hand, such as cleaning himself after relieving himself (istinja') and touching the private parts. It was not reported that he would take with his left hand and give with his right; rather, he would give with his right hand, unless the matter was considered unclean, in which case he would handle it with his left hand out of respect for the right.
