Is it obligatory to give Zakat on wealth to one person or to several people, and is it permissible to give it to the same person every year?

The recipients of Zakat are eight categories, as stated in the verse: (Indeed, [prescribed] charitable donations are only for the poor and the needy, and those who work on [collecting] them, and those whose hearts are to be reconciled, and for [freeing] captives, and for those in debt, and for the cause of Allah, and for the stranded traveler - a duty [imposed] by Allah. And Allah is All-Knowing, All-Wise).

It is permissible to disburse Zakat to a single category or to a single individual within one category.

As for the amount given to an individual: - The Malikis and Hanbalis: The poor and the needy, and those they support, are given what suffices them for one year. - The Shafi'is: They are given what removes them from need to self-sufficiency, which is what achieves permanent sufficiency. - Abu Hanifa and his companions: It is not permissible for him to exceed two hundred dirhams. However, if he has dependents, it is permissible for him to take this amount for each of them.

It is permissible to give Zakat to the same person every year as long as they remain eligible for Zakat.
