How should a person act concerning an excess amount of 180 dinars resulting from the disbursement of nine months' salary instead of eight months' work?

If the surplus amount is not rightfully yours, it must be returned to the state treasury if they dispense justice with it. Otherwise, it should be spent on charitable causes and the general welfare of Muslims, or given as charity to the poor.
