Is marriage based on the financial capacity of each person, where the wealthy marry in a manner commensurate with their means without extravagance, and the poor in an ordinary manner without excessive burden, especially with young people refraining from marriage due to the high costs?

The expenses of marriage should be commensurate with the financial status of the one getting married. A poor person is not required to spend like a rich person, nor is a rich woman required to accept the dowry of a poor woman. If the father is well-off and the son is poor, the father should help his son get married. Some jurists, including the Hanbalis, are of the opinion that it is obligatory for a rich father to help his poor son marry, if the son's maintenance is incumbent upon the father. The majority of scholars, however, hold that it is not obligatory. One is advised to fear Allah and make abundant supplications.
