What is the ruling on swimming in the Dead Sea in Jordan?

If it is definitively proven that the Dead Sea is the place where the people of Lot, upon whom Allah's wrath descended, perished, then a Muslim should avoid it and not benefit from anything in it. This is based on the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: "Do not enter upon these people who have been punished, unless you are weeping. If you are not weeping, then do not enter upon them, lest what befell them should befall you." This applies to every people destroyed by Allah's punishment. However, there is no definitive evidence to prove that the Dead Sea is the exact location of the destruction of the people of Lot. Therefore, it remains permissible to swim and benefit from it, as per the original ruling, until proven otherwise.
