Is the Dead Sea or the Jordan Valley region in Jordan the location of Lot’s people, and is there definitive proof of that, and is it permissible to go, sit, and pray in such locations?

Allah sent Lut (peace be upon him) to his people in Sodom and Gomorrah. Ibn Kathir mentioned that Allah sent him to them to call them to monotheism and forbid them from immoralities.

Allah destroyed their villages by turning them upside down. It is believed that the Dead Sea is the place where the people of Lut were destroyed, as Islamic exegesis and historical texts concur on this, in addition to some holy books of the People of the Book. Studies indicate that this region is the lowest point on Earth.

If it is definitively proven that the Dead Sea is the place where the people of Lut were destroyed, then it is forbidden to enter the places of those who were punished except weeping, because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade entering the dwellings of Thamud except weeping. However, this has not been definitively proven; rather, it appears that most of what has been narrated in this regard is taken from the People of the Book, and therefore no legal ruling can be based on it. Nevertheless, it is more cautious to avoid visiting it and benefiting from its products to steer clear of doubts.
