Is it permissible to use products containing salts or extracts from the Dead Sea?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

The Dead Sea, a saline lake located in occupied Palestine and Jordan, is the lowest and most saline place in the world, and it was named "Dead" due to the scarcity of life in it. Historians and exegetes have differed on whether this region is the villages of the people of Lut, but the majority confirm it. If it is proven that it is the place where the people of Lut were punished, then it is not permissible to benefit from any of its products, such as salts, minerals, and mud, nor to visit it for tourism. Rather, one must hasten when passing through it and weep, remembering Allah's punishment, acting upon the Sunnah of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, regarding the dwellings of those who were punished. The evidence for not benefiting from what comes out of it is the Prophet's command, peace and blessings be upon him, to spill the water from the well of Thamud when they descended upon their land.
