What is the authenticity of the hadith "Your brothers are your Khawal; Allah has placed them under your care," what is its chain of transmission, and what is its interpretation?

This hadith is agreed upon as authentic, narrated by the two Sheikhs, Bukhari and Muslim. It concerns slaves (or servants), and its meaning becomes clear from its story: Abu Dharr once verbally abused a man and taunted him about his mother. Thereupon, the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said to him: "O Abu Dharr, did you taunt him about his mother?! Indeed, you are a person who still has traces of Jahiliyyah (ignorance). Your brethren are your khawal (servants). Allah has placed them under your authority. So, whoever has his brother under his authority should feed him from what he eats, and clothe him from what he clothes himself with, and do not burden them with what they cannot bear. And if you do burden them, then help them." And "khawalukum" means your servants and slaves who manage your affairs, or whom you own.
