What is the cure for envy that afflicts a person when he sees others superior to him in wealth, appearance, and status, even though he wishes well for people?

People are naturally inclined to love superiority in wealth, beauty, and status. They are divided into two types: The first accepts Allah's decree and strives through lawful means without envy; this is the state of a believer. The second does not accept Allah's decree and envies; this is the state of Iblis and his allies.

Therefore, the love of high status is not blameworthy if it is within the bounds of what Allah has permitted. What is blameworthy is dissatisfaction with Allah's decree and attempting to achieve one's desires through forbidden means. Among the things that help one achieve contentment are: 1. Feeling that everything is by Allah's divine will and decree. 2. Looking at those who are lower in worldly matters, not those who are higher. 3. Realizing that true superiority lies in obeying Allah and drawing closer to Him. 4. Understanding that envy is a fire that consumes the heart of the envious person and does not harm the envied, and it is a sign of weakness of soul and helplessness. 5. Focusing on oneself and striving to do good to people, for envy and benevolence do not coexist, and true richness is richness of the soul.
