What is the human soul and what is its role, if the verse (Say: The soul is from the command of my Lord) does not refer to the human soul?

The verse in question is: {And they ask you, [O Muhammad], about the soul. Say, "The soul is of the affair of my Lord. And mankind has not been given of knowledge except a little."}

The opinion of the majority and the most preponderant view is that the "soul" intended in the verse is the human soul. Other opinions have been mentioned, stating that it is Gabriel, or the Qur'an, or blood, or the animal's life force, or an accident (a non-essential attribute), or a subtle body, or a meaning in which light, goodness, transcendence, and permanence are combined. The most fitting of these sayings is to entrust the knowledge of the soul to Allah, the Almighty, and this is the statement of Ahl al-Sunnah.
