How can one overcome the state of intense sadness and continuous depression after the death of a sister, and return to a normal life with one's husband and children?
Patience, gratitude, and seeking reward from Allah Almighty elevate ranks and expiate sins. In the Two Sahihs, the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "There is no Muslim afflicted by harm, be it a thorn or more, but Allah expiates his sins thereby, just as a tree sheds its leaves." Furthermore, sadness is of no benefit; it exacerbates misfortunes and deprives a person of enjoying life. Therefore, do not grieve when you have many blessings: faith, a home, and good health. Joy is an art that can be studied and brought about through resilience, strength of heart, and perseverance. To achieve joy, one must rein in thoughts and prevent them from recalling sorrows, a painful past, and a frightening future, directing them instead towards fruitful work and reliance on Allah. This worldly life is not worth frowning over, and it is impossible to completely remove all traces of sorrow from it because it was created this way: "We have certainly created man in hardship."
