Is a husband entitled to speak with his ex-wife—divorced through khulʿ—in a private conversation pertaining to married couples, with the intention of reconciliation, knowing that her waiting period (ʿiddah) is one month?

Divorce in return for absolution is a type of irrevocable divorce [ तलाक بائن ], and it is considered Khul’ (divorce at the wife’s instance) if it is in exchange for compensation. The waiting period (‘iddah) for a woman who has undergone Khul’ is three menstrual cycles for those who menstruate. If the divorce is irrevocable, the wife becomes a stranger to her husband, and he is not permitted to speak with her except out of necessity and while observing the Sharia guidelines. The husband may take back his irrevocably divorced wife by renewing the marriage contract, even if the waiting period has not ended, unless this was the third divorce. The waiting period is reckoned in months for a young girl or an elderly woman who has despaired of menstruation; as for a woman who menstruates, her waiting period is three menstrual cycles.
