What do you do about the father's refusal of the return of his son's wife, whom the son believes there is no solution for her flaws except by her return to the home, while you want to rent a house for her?
Obedience to the father is obligatory upon the son, as long as it does not involve disobedience [to Allah]. So, if the father commands him to divorce his wife for a legitimate reason, then he must divorce her. It is even more so if the father's displeasure is with her living in his house, especially if it causes him harm. Therefore, the son should prioritize his father's رضا (satisfaction) over the wife's interest. The suggestion of renting a house for the wife, if possible, grants her the right to an independent dwelling, avoids her problems, and trains her to rely on herself. Her mother or one of her female relatives can live with her until she becomes self-reliant.
