What is the ruling on working at a public telephone from which the immoral connect with prostitutes, and what is the ruling on the money earned from this work?

The telephone is a blessing that necessitates gratitude by using it in ways that please Allah. It is not permissible to use it in ways that Allah has forbidden, because any means leading to the forbidden is itself forbidden, and doing so is a form of ingratitude for the blessing. As for opening a public telephone shop, if its use is in accordance with what the Sharia permits, then the money earned is lawful. If its users are a mixture [of those who use it permissibly and impermissibly], then the shop owner must prevent those who use it for forbidden purposes if he is able to do so. Otherwise, he must seek another job free from Sharia violations. This applies if he is certain of the forbidden use; otherwise, he is not permitted to prevent them.
