It is advisable not to take medication to induce menstruation, and there is a concern of sin if the purpose of taking it is to avoid prayer. It is not permissible for a woman to take medication to induce menstruation if her intention is illicit, such as not fasting in Ramadan. If menstruation ceases due to the medication, she is considered ritually pure. If menstruation begins before its usual time due to the medication, the Malikis have stated that it is not considered menstruation and she remains ritually pure; she should pray and fast, and make up for the fasting but not the prayers, as a precaution. As for the Hanafis, they have stated that if blood appears during the days of menstruation due to medication, then it is considered menstruation, and the 'iddah (waiting period) concludes with it.
