Does the moon lie between the layered heavens, and in which heaven is it specifically located, and is it the moon we see?

Scholars are of the view that the moon is not in the heaven itself, but rather in an orbit between heaven and earth. They interpret the verses whose apparent meaning suggests that the moon is in heaven to mean that it is in its direction or in the high heavens, and "heaven" may refer to anything that is elevated. They also believe that the ascent of spacecraft to the moon is evidence that it is not in the lowest heaven, but rather in an orbit in which it floats, as stated in His Almighty's saying: "And each floats in an orbit." (Qur’an 21:33). They mentioned that the meaning of "therein" in His Almighty's saying: "And made the moon therein a light" (Qur’an 71:16) could mean that its light is therein, and this does not necessitate that it is between them.
