Is it permissible for a man to tie his long hair?

It is permissible for a man to tie his hair as long as he does not imitate women. It has been reported in the Hadiths that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, would braid his hair when it grew long. In the Hadith narrated by Umm Hani: "The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, came to Mecca, and he had four plaits (meaning braids)." Ibn al-Qayyim mentioned that when the Prophet's hair, peace and blessings be upon him, grew long, he would make it into four plaits.
