When does the time for offering condolences to the family of the deceased begin and end?

Consolation (ta'ziyah) is prescribed from the moment of death, both before and after burial. No specific time limit is set for it; rather, it remains prescribed as long as the effect of the calamity persists. It is indeed established that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, consoled his daughter before burial. The majority of jurists hold that it is preferable for consolation to take place after burial, due to the family of the deceased being occupied before it, and because their sense of desolation intensifies afterward. Some scholars are of the view that consolation is restricted to three days, but the more preponderant opinion is that it is prescribed as long as the calamity remains, and there is no evidence to limit it to three days.
